About

Alex Yoken

Alex Yoken was raised in Westchester County, New York, and received her Master’s Degree in General and Special Education from Manhattanville College. After teaching in public schools for several years, Alex felt that her skill set would be put to better use by starting an educational consulting service to address the unique needs of individual students and families. Alex has always been a passionate debater and excellent communicator, and she now zealously advocates for families and students with disabilities, medical conditions, and those struggling with behavioral and/or emotional challenges. Alex’s background as a Special Education teacher coupled with her knowledge of IDEA and state laws enables her to keenly identify if students’ or families’ rights are being violated in any way, and/or if they are being underserved or ignored by their local districts. Alex has successfully advocated to obtain additional services and accommodations for students, has secured costly out-of-district placements for students paid for by the district, and has solved many educational challenges by working assertively with districts and coming up with creative solutions.

Alex’s advocacy has helped many families in New York and Connecticut avoid the expense of court proceedings, including the hiring of an attorney, as she is able to use her knowledge of best practices, legal precedent, and public relations optics to secure the necessary placements, accommodations, and services that her clients deserve. Alex’s approach is to work with districts at the administrative level, which is mutually beneficial for the district and the client, and is less contentious than filing a lawsuit. Even though Alex is highly familiar with the due process and impartial hearing process, she has been effective at solving dozens of client problems without ever having to file a due process complaint, saving her clients precious time, money, and stress. If you or someone you know feels that they are being underserved by a district in New York or Connecticut, please reach out for a free consultation to discuss your case.

Alex is a member of COPAA, the Council of Parent Attorneys and Advocates, the only national organization dedicated to protecting the legal and civil rights of students with disabilities.
