Education and Credentials

Alex Yoken, The Savvy Tutor, grew up in Westchester County and attended The Hackley School in Tarrytown. While at Hackley, Alex developed many of the critical writing, thinking, and study skills that it takes to thrive in a rigorous academic environment and in the hypercompetitive world at large. Alex graduated from Hackley in 2002 with honors, and went on to study art history and social sciences at Tulane University.

After transferring to Purchase College as a result of Hurricane Katrina, Alex graduated with a cumulative 3.7 GPA and received her B.A. in Liberal Arts.

After working as an American Red Cross certified swimming instructor and peer tutor throughout college, Alex decided that teaching was her passion and she went back to school for a Master’s degree. Alex pursued her Master’s degree in Childhood and Special Education at Manhattanville College and graduated in 2011 with a 4.0 GPA.
While at Manhattanville, Alex gained invaluable experience as a classroom teacher, peer- and professional tutor. Alex has worked in general education settings and classrooms, as well as inclusion, co-taught, and resource classrooms, and thus has an understanding of how the public school system operates. Alex’s experience working with students of many abilities and ages and in many settings allows her the flexibility to work with many populations by implementing a wealth of data-driven and appropriate instructional strategies and methods.

Alex holds a Master’s Degree in General Education and Special Education from Manhattanville College and is dually certified in Childhood Education and Special Education in New York State..
